Abstract

ABSTRACT Lipoblastoma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor derived from embryonic fat that occurs almost exclusively in infants and children, with a predilection for the limbs and trunk. We report two cases of upper limb lipoblastoma in two girls aged 4 and 5 years, seen at the Bamako dermatology hospital. The first patient presented with a palmar swelling, present since birth, that had progressively enlarged, causing functional impairment. The second had a wrist swelling that had evolved for over three years. Ultrasound in both cases revealed a well‑circumscribed soft tissue mass with benign features. Laboratory investigations were normal. Complete surgical excision was performed: a W‑plasty for the first tumor and a direct oval incision for the second. Histopathological examination confirmed lipoblastoma. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, with no recurrence at four months of follow‑up. These cases illustrate the clinical presentation of this rare benign tumor, highlight the importance of imaging and histology for diagnosis, and reinforce the central role of complete surgical excision as the treatment of choice.
