Abstract

Introduction. The incidence of endometrial cancer is on the rise in Burkina Faso. In response to this public health challenge, this study aimed to describe the epidemiological and clinicopathological characteristics of patients with malignant endometrial tumors at Bogodogo University Hospital. Patients and Methods. This was a single-center, cross-sectional, descriptive study with retrospective data collection conducted from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2023. Results. Thirty-three cases were identified. The mean age was 62.7 years; all patients were postmenopausal. A sedentary lifestyle was observed in 87.9% of cases, and overweight status in 60.7%. Comorbidities were common (48.5%), with hypertension being the most prevalent (36.4%). The average time to consultation was 6.2 months, driven by pelvic pain (48.5%) and postmenopausal metrorrhagia (39.4%). Endometrioid adenocarcinoma was the predominant histological type (75.8%), with grade III in 83.3%. FIGO stage IV was found in 63.6% of cases, and synchronous metastases (lung and liver) in 57.6%. Conclusion. Endometrial cancer in Burkina Faso primarily affects postmenopausal patients with obesity and diabetes, characterized by late diagnosis. Early detection in the presence of postmenopausal metrorrhagia is imperative to improve prognosis.
